Terms of service
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
1. The agreement
These terms are between you and [COMPANY NAME], [COMPANY ADDRESS] ("we", "us"). By installing Klein, creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Klein.
Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data, and our refund policy explains refunds. Both are part of these terms.
2. What Klein is
Klein is a desktop app for individuals. It keeps track of your calendar, the asks in your email, your tasks, your voice notes, your reminders and your meetings, and tells you what to do next when you ask. It runs on Windows and needs an internet connection for most features. Some features depend on your plan.
3. Your account
- You need to be at least 16 to use Klein, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live.
- You sign in with Google or Microsoft. Keep that account safe. You're responsible for what happens in your Klein account.
- An account is for one person. Don't share it.
- Give us accurate details, and keep them up to date.
4. Plans and trial
- Klein has two paid plans, Core and Advanced. Core is the whole daily routine: calendar, tasks, voice notes, reminders, "what now", Ask Klein, people and a set number of meeting notes a month. Advanced adds more, such as Klein's cloud voice, a live meeting transcript, a second inbox, unlimited meetings and history, calendar changes and the workspace API. The current list is in the app.
- Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial of Advanced. No card is needed. After the trial you choose a plan. If you don't, Klein gives you a few days on Core, then shows only the plan choice until you pick one. Nothing you've stored is deleted, but Klein pauses reading your email until you choose.
- One free trial per person. Don't create new accounts to get another.
- Prices, taxes and the billing period are shown in the app and at checkout before you pay.
5. Billing through Paddle
- Our order process is run by Paddle.com, which is the merchant of record for all our orders. Paddle sells you the subscription, takes the payment, handles sales tax or VAT, and answers billing questions and returns. Paddle's buyer terms apply to your purchase.
- Plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. We'll tell you before a price change applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.
- If a payment fails, Paddle will try again for a short time. If it still fails and the subscription ends, your account goes back to the plan choice described in section 4.
6. Cancelling
- You can cancel at any time through the link in your Paddle receipt email, or by writing to [CONTACT EMAIL]. Cancelling stops the next renewal.
- You keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for. We don't refund the rest of a period, except as our refund policy says or the law requires.
- Cancel your plan before deleting your account, so you aren't charged again.
7. Your content
What you put into Klein, and what Klein makes from it (reminders, notes, transcripts, answers), is yours. You give us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, copy, process and display it, and to send it to the service providers named in our privacy policy, only so we can run Klein for you. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from backups that expire on their regular cycle.
We don't use your content to train AI models, we don't sell it, and we don't read it unless you ask us to and agree, it's needed for security, or the law requires it.
You promise that you have the right to put your content into Klein, including what other people say in meetings you take notes on and the mail you connect.
8. Google, Microsoft and other services
When you connect Google or Microsoft, you let Klein read your calendar, mail and tasks, as you choose. Klein's access is read-only, unless you turn on calendar changes. Klein never sends email, posts messages or invites people for you. You can disconnect at any time.
Those services are run by other companies under their own terms. We aren't responsible for them, for changes they make, or for them being unavailable. If they change or withdraw access, some Klein features may stop working.
9. AI can be wrong, and Klein asks first
Klein uses AI to read email, notes and meetings, to write notes and to answer questions. It's built to be careful, and only puts items in front of you when they have a clear source. It can still miss things, get dates or names wrong, or mishear a recording. Check anything important yourself before you rely on it. Klein is a helper, not a guarantee that you'll meet every deadline, and it isn't legal, medical or financial advice.
Klein never acts for you without your approval. It changes a calendar event only after you say yes to that change, and you can undo a change for 7 days. You're responsible for the changes you approve.
10. Meetings and recording
Klein only takes meeting notes when you start them. It's your responsibility to tell the people in the meeting and to get any consent the law requires where you and they are. Don't use Klein to record anyone secretly.
11. Using Klein fairly
Don't use Klein to:
- break the law, or record or process other people's data unlawfully;
- harass, harm or deceive others;
- get into accounts, mailboxes or data that aren't yours;
- interfere with, overload or probe the security of the service, or get around plan limits;
- copy, resell or reverse-engineer Klein, except where the law allows it.
12. What's ours
Klein's software, design and name belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to install and use the app while your account is open and you follow these terms. The licence shown when you install Klein says the same thing.
13. Availability and changes
We work to keep Klein running, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or remove features. If a change takes away something important you pay for, we'll tell you ahead of time, and you can cancel.
14. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings, under Privacy & memory. It is deleted at once, as our privacy policy describes.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where the law requires it. We'll tell you why, unless the law stops us. If we close your account without you having broken these terms, we'll refund the unused part of a period you've paid for.
15. Disclaimers
Apart from what these terms say, Klein is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we don't give other promises, such as that Klein will fit a particular purpose or never make mistakes.
16. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as a missed deadline, lost data, lost profit or lost business. Our total liability for any claim about Klein is limited to the greater of what you paid for Klein in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or injury caused by negligence, or takes away rights you have under consumer law where you live.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana, and the courts of Ghana deal with disputes about them. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and can bring a claim in your local courts. Before going to court, please write to us so we can try to sort it out.
18. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. If you keep using Klein after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
19. General
If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. You can't transfer these terms to someone else; we can transfer them as part of a sale or merger of the business, with notice to you.
